Firstly the Captain made a good choice not to sail out in the stormy weather. however this made the cruise delayed in Sydney and we missed port arthur which was the best port on the cruise. The food was good but it was always luke warm never hot,it was hard to get a drink as the crew did not take
notice of glasses empty etc. Lots of missed opportunities there was no drink service around the pools or around the entertainment areas you basically had to get up and go get your self or try and get their attention. The good things for the smokers was you can smoke in casino, balconies, all open air areas.
Overall the cruise was good but would not go with them again unless they relise what the Aussies like. most shore excursions was not value for money.
We were lucky enough to have booked to be Palace Guest in deluxe suite, Every part of our cruise was outstanding, The food in the Palace Restaurant was wonderful anything we wanted the staff retrieved with a smile on their faces. on the 2nd day they knew us knew what we wanted to drink how we had
our coffees / We had a double balcony we had a king size bed massive rainwater shower full freestanding bath, We had a complimentary mini bar set up and fa premium drinks package come with being a palace guest, We had complimentary shore tours, All shuttle costs were free Free access to tender boats with a lift held just for Palace Guests, We had our own pool deck which my husband made full use of swimming every day. Also had reserved seats in the theatre. It was so perfect we also had booked a 2nd cruise in the same suite departing on 26th Jan
Decided to take a last minute break and cruise around New Zealand on the Explorer Dream (a new addition to our shores). I was not quite sure what to expect as some of the reviews I read before sailing weren't the best. However, any apprehension I had felt disappeared the moment I boarded the ship.
The crew were amazingly helpful and always smiling despite their onerous task of tending to the myriad of requests and expectations of the passengers. Food was a mixture of Asian and Western styles depending where you dined, menus were changed for each service and were fresh and delicious. We were totally spoilt for choice.
Everywhere you went, including cabins, were spotlessly clean and it seemed there was a continuous rota to keep every surface pristine.
Cabins were beautifully furnished with superb bedding provided. Cabins were replenished daily with body lotion, shampoo & conditioner, coffee & tea making supplies. The kettle supplied in each cabin was an added bonus especially in the early morning and late in the evening.
Entertainment was superb, something for everyone, and I must say that the daily shows were breathtaking ... World Class!
A fantastic entry into our market and I'm sure that next season will be even better ... if that's even possible.
Of special note was the question time with the captain and a clip at the end of our voyage to thank us all for cruising with Dream Cruises.
We have cruised with other companies, and took this trip for our Golden Wedding Anniversary. The crew were wonderful. Nothing was too much trouble for them, and the evening shows were terrific. Food at the buffet was on a par with other cruise lines, and the main dining room was excellent. Our cabin
was a disappointment. It was a lot smaller than we expected. We had a balcony cabin which was quite cramped. A fold out bed settee was right up against one side of the bed so I had to climb across it to get in and out of bed. It was not extended as we did not need it. There were tea making facilities and 2 free bottles of water daily. Also some lovely accessories in the bathroom. However we found out after we returned to Auckland that there should have been free slippers for everyone and we had not been given any. These should have been in the cabin before we arrived. Also no info re laundry service or room service. Onboard credit was only for specific things, which surprised me as on other lines it covered anything that you purchased onboard. As we did not see the sounds due to bad weather, every cabin was given $100.00 obc.. They did not connect my account with my husband's which is always done on other ships, so he got the credit and I got a bill. It took quite a while to get them to join it, although I believe that other people did not have the same problem. It depended on who you got at reception. The 2 artists onboard were excellent and we had our portraits done. I would only travel on this ship again if I could get a balcony as the other rooms were smaller still. It would have to be a cheap deal.
We have been not expecting anything as it was our first cruise ever...saying that, we don't think that there was anything that needs improving vastly. Staff was very friendly and helpful, food was plentiful and always good with plenty of choices for everyone. Cabin was clean and comfortable,
serviced at least twice a day. Entertainment outstanding. The staff was trying their very best with a smile and nothing was too much. As it goes for pricing...there are many different deals out there and it pays to shop around. It was a great cruise and we are wanting to go again soon
I would love to say what a beautiful experience I had on this ship cruising around my country by sea. the crew always smiled and greeted me like I was important .
My cabin was a good size with a balcony I loved it and the bed was cosy
. The boy who cleaned my room was so attentive and friendly he was very spotless thank you.
I loved all the entertainment I could see the most beautiful costumes and crew dancing and singing wow
was so impressive.
The captain well I enjoyed his consultation with us passengers he was awesome. The price of my trip was well worth it. I intend to come again next year with friends .I am going to advertise your amazing ship and voyage to everyone on my facebook.
The positives. The cabin was small but well laid out and very clean. The bed was across the cabin so you could sit up in bed and look at the water through the port light. The bathroom was the best laid out that I had seen. Small but sliding doors to the shower and toilet areas.
There is a place where you can view the ship's bridge through a large window. A great idea.
The big negative was that on embarking in Brisbane for a short two night sail to Sydney we were not told that the ship was on Sydney time. So turned up at 7:50pm for a meal at one of the main restaurants only to be told it closed in 10 minutes at the time was really 8:50pm! Very rushed and pretty average Chinese meal in the Asian restaurant. We like Asian food and this was not good. Next night was better at the Western Restaurant but because it was booked out early we had to go later and we missed most of the show which did look pretty good when we saw the last 15 minutes. Our fault I guess for not booking.
We were offered welcome drinks of blue very sweet cordial which were terrible.
No nice intimate bars just a couple of large areas with entertainment. Nicest little intimate space on deck 7 was for smokers. Yes, there are smoking areas inside the ship I guess to account for the large Chinese clientele. There was one or two groups that were pretty good but nowhere near as enjoyable as P&O, Princess and Royal Caribbean cruses I have been on.
There is a mixture of international service staff which is normal but as it is a very Chinese focused company a lot of the service staff were Chinese so whilst everything was efficiently handled but there was not a lot of smiles. This seems to permeate the other non Chinese staff where as normally they exude fun.
Apart from The Palm Bar entertainment area I did not really like the layout of the ship but perhaps this is common on larger cruise ships.
Not terrible buy a long shot but it would not be my pick cruise company again.
Partner and I just experienced 7 night Australian Explorer Sydney - Sydney cruise on Explorer Dream. The price at $699 for interior cabin was great. The cabin was the tiniest cabin we have had on a cruise - in saying that, beds were very comfy, wardrobe was good size as well as bathroom and room was
very clean. Of 1850 passenger capacity, we heard there was around 480 passengers on board! Why, when there would have been many empty cabins, didn't Dream Cruises upgrade people to balconies - they were empty anyway. Would have been nice. There was very little atmosphere due to lack of passengers. There were some good bands, Crossover Band and Major Impact Band, that were playing to very small crowds. Only played in 45min sets, then there was nothing to do. We got the premium drinks package ($79/day) - good value considering that seemed to waive the 18% service charge plus 10% GST that was on top otherwise. Drinks were reasonably priced, but charges made them not so. Drink service was fairly slow, but cocktails were very good. The food was poor, both in Lido Buffet and Dream Dining. The pizza (not inclusive) was very nice. The cannot cook bacon - how they made bacon like jerky I will never know! Coffee was poor also. Really nice pool area - was very quiet and no trouble getting a deck chair. The magic show with Vincent Vignaud was not to our liking - he was over the top and the show called 'spirits' was unusual to say the least. The entertainment staff worked so hard to get things going, but when there are so few people on board it is very hard. We found the service staff to be as good as any other cruise line - friendly and very helpful. Dream Cruises cater more to their Asian clientele, making others feel like intruders. I don't know if they will come back to Australia next year.
This was our very first cruise, on board the Pacific Dawn, and our very first holiday outside of Australia.
With our 10th Wedding Anniversary pending, we thought we would give this cruising thing ago, and we are hooked.
The Hubby and I have not stopped raving about how good it was to our friends & family who've never cruised.
Count down is on for the next one back to the Islands with P&O on board the Pacific Aria from Brisbane 18th October.
I found the ship had plenty of stuff to do on board, and places to go and sit back and relax. As first timers we didn't know what to expect when going on shore. This cruise we will be making the most of the shore tours that available. I will be the one embarrassing the hubby with the DIY cruise shirts i will be making haha.
